This event is NOT a fundraiser. We are asking for $25 per family to defray the cost of hosting the event. We would appreciate if every family who is able to join us could make the suggested donation, if possible. However, for those who cannot do so at this time, please join us as we want as many families to be there as possible. Each player will receive a souvenir gift in honor of their participation in our program this year. We will be accepting RSVPs and donations for the banquet this weekend at the concession booth.

Winchester Pop Warner

E Red

In Wilmington, the E Red team scored early and often in gaining a big 32-7 victory. Jake Mabardy got the scoring off to a fast start, running a bootleg untouched into the end zone on the second play from scrimmage. A 40-yard run from Michael Bongiorno on the game’s first play set up great field position, one of many long runs for him throughout the day. Mabardy was also effective in the air, completing two passes to Jakob Flores during later scoring drives.

Ryan McCarthy was unstoppable with the ball. He led the ground attack, running strong for the second week in a row, scoring several long touchdowns driving through and weaving around countless defenders. Danny Henderson and Jack Shediac anchored a strong performance by the offensive line. The defense was equally dominant, with John Guthrie, Garrett Smith, and Jack Kinsey shutting down the ground game with big tackles and Coleman Edwards recording a sack late in the game to close out the win.

E Black

The WPW E-Black Football team earned a very deserved 13-0 victory at Westborough. From the very first possession, it was clear the offense came prepared and moved the ball well. Both touchdowns were scored in the first half by Ty Lites, who showed power and speed on both sides of the ball. In the second half the offensive kept Westborough’s offense on the sidelines with some fine runs by Henry Kraft, Joe Lawler, and Zach Travaglini, helped by fine blocking by the entire offensive line.

Zach Tucci led a strong defensive effort in the shutout, along with great tackling by the entire unit, including Andrew Thompson, Gus Kraft, and Jimmy Gibbons. Needless to say, looking at the score, everyone on defense did their jobs.

D Red

In Billerica, the D Red team suffered its first setback of the year this weekend. The prior week, however, the team served notice of the strength of the new Winchester Pop Warner program in style, with Alex Caliguri running the opening kickoff of the season back for a spectacular touchdown, behind a great block from tight end Charlie Ward. Caliguri book-ended his performance by taking a handoff from quarterback Colin Bergstrom into the end zone to beat Wakefield in overtime, giving Winchester a win in its first game in over 30 years. In between those two touchdowns the D Red defense held Wakefield to just 6 points, thanks to huge defensive efforts by Charlie Nowell (making a big sack from defensive end), AJ Vozzella, Henry Sergenian, and Christopher Ferrelli. On the offensive side of the ball Colin Bergstrom and Will Sergenian also had long runs, led by strong blocking by Peter Gallagher and Paul Manganaro.

D Black

The D Black team scored an impressive 25-6 victory in Westborough. The offensive line of Francis Dooley, Henry McDonough, Robby Walsh, Andrew Peterson, Michael Tavilla, and Justin Piazza allowed the backfield to control the ball for most of the game, leading to four scores for the Sachems. McDonough also caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Liam Fitzgerald, who had a 40-yard touchdown run as well. Devin Marrocco ran well all game, including two long and impressive touchdown runs. Marrocco made sure Westborough’s offense never got into gear, grabbing two interceptions to lead the Sachem defense.

C Team

The C Team had a thrilling 21-12 win in Westborough. Outstanding play on both sides of the ball by all 21 players led to a victory for the Sachems. Sam Curtin picked off a pass and recovered a bouncing ball on a kickoff to spark the team. Zach Geddes racked up three scores for the Sachems. He caught two touchdown passes from Matt Scolaro and ran for another on a handoff from Tom Dooley, who also had a great game at cornerback. Chase Krivikas capped the scoring by getting into the end zone for an extra point on a strong run. Max Ehrbar played a strong game at defensive end. Other standouts included Dylan Dire and John Leghetto this week.
